Congratulations are in order for the varsity team as they went 3 – 2 at the THSCA 6A Texas State Duals this weekend and finished as the 9th place team in Texas!
This week will see shorter, more intense practices as we prepare for final exams. First period will begin practice at 8:15 AM Thursday. All JV will practice immediately after school is out on Friday. Practice will end by 2:00 PM Friday. This weekend, both the varsity and JV will compete at in the Ranger Classic Tournament at Dallas Jesuit College Prep, 12345 Inwood Rd., Dallas. The varsity competition begins on Friday, and is a two-day affair. The JV competes on Saturday only. This is a double-elimination event. The JV will compete in 8-man brackets and must win at least two matches before losing two in order to earn a medal. Medals will be awarded to the top three wrestlers in each weight class. Yes, I said weight class! The JV must “make weight”. That is to say that they must step on a scale and weigh at or below their weight class prior to the competition. If they do not make the weight, their day is over. Remember that after the Holidays, we get a 2 lb. growth allowance at all competitions. So, the weight classes are all 2 lbs. heavier than they were before the holidays.
The varsity will leave on Friday at 2:30 PM. Weigh-in on Friday is at 4 PM and the tournament begins at 6:00 PM. We anticipate getting home around 10:30 PM. Friday night. Saturday, both the varsity and JV leave FMHS at 6:00 AM. Weigh-in is at 7:00 AM., and wrestling begins at 9:00 AM. JV wrestlers may leave Jesuit with their parent when they receive their medal or when they are eliminated. However, they are strongly encouraged to move to the varsity gym to watch the varsity competition and ride the bus home. You might be very surprised at how much you can learn just from watching! We anticipate the varsity tournament ending by 6:00 PM., which would put the bus home by 7:00.
