First of all, thank you for all your help with the Jaguar Invitational! We could not pull off this event without parental support and lots of volunteer work from all of our kids. Even those who are injured and could not compete were expected to help in some capacity. The team was fully aware of our expectations.
Everything went off without a hitch until it came time to breakdown the gym. Less than ½ of the team was here to help with breakdown, so it took forever. Those kiddoes who were “A.W.O.L.” will be doing some pretty severe reminders.
This week will be busy for us. On Wednesday, the JV will participate in a festival at home with SL Carroll and Coppell. We are scheduled to begin at 5:30, but will start sooner if we have referees available. The varsity will be expected to stay and work the event.
Thursday, we will take photos for the yearbook. The boys should be in hoodies and fight shorts. Varsity will shoot at 3:15, and JV will shoot right after school. Then, at 5:30, the varsity will dual Hebron and SL Carroll. The JV is encouraged to stay and watch, but it is not required.
Saturday, the Junior Varsity will get a chance to compete in a tournament at Rockwall where team points will be kept just like at a varsity tournament. Each athlete’s points contribute to the team score. We will enter two teams, a navy and a silver. Only one athlete per weight per team is allowed to compete. Varsity Challenge will take place all week to try to determine the best two JV athletes at each weight. The bus will leave Saturday morning at 6:30 AM. The kids must “make weight”. If they are overweight, they cannot compete. The weigh-in is at 8:00 AM, and the first round starts at 9:00 AM. Because this is a team event, all wrestlers are expected to stay in the gym and root for their team until the last match has been wrestled! So, parents, unless you stay until the tournament is over, your son will be expected to ride home on the bus. If you do stay, you are welcome to take him with you when all wrestling is finished for the team.
The varsity is off this weekend! Enjoy it! It will be the last weekend off until our season is over. Nothing left now but post-season.
